Into the Fire

I've been working with fire again, but this time with a purpose in mind - making rings and connectors for a bracelet and then perhaps earrings if the looks of it are good.  I've experimented with where to hold the wire in the flame to achieve various colourations

Here is the start of the bead that will form on the end of the wire

You can see the bead has form on the end.  It is actually bright red.

Here it is just after moving out of the flame

These are the rings I hand formed from the wires and made connecting rings to hold them together.  The wires actually show a rainbow of colour between the two dark ends.

Sunday Morning bits

It is another cold morning, but the sun is out and there is no wind so our walk with Oz was enjoyable.  It was especially so because the snow has frozen again and we can walk without sinking down into the foot of white stuff we have left and we don't need our snowshoes - Yay!!!

There are tulip and daffodil nubs coming up in the warmer exposed areas close to the house and walkway in the back and I am anxious to see if the Hellebores are blooming under the snow as they usually are.  Instant flowers when the snow disappears!

Some of the 60+ tomato seeds have sprouted and the Convolvulus and various Salvia are coming along well.  Here are some of the things growing on 'Under the Lights'.

Convolvulus - always such great germination and the colour of blue is deep and velvety

Peeking through the plastic covers - don't want any drafts or chills here!

Burgundy leaved begonia - an odd combo of colours, but it works!

A favourite succulent

Begonia nubs on one of my tubers that is over 25 years old.  It is the size of a small cabbage and will grow to a height of 36" with large coral flowers

Weekend Happenings

For the first time in a long while, it has been nice to be outside.  Specially today with the blue sky, warm sun and excellent snow conditions for cross country skiing.

I decided to take Ozzie out with me for a short ski - his first time.  I had always worried that he would, like some other dogs I know, keep stepping on my skies, making me fall or causing some good jolts to the body.  Well, again he surprised me!  After becoming acquainted with my skis and barking at them for the first while, he settled down and kept behind me for the most part, not once stepping on my skis.  The ski down "Ankle Hill" was a huge success where I thought for sure he would run like heck after me and we would both go down, but I needn't have worried and I plan on taking him for a longer ski tomorrow.  Hopefully this wasn't a one time thing!
